The Digital Audio Workstation: A Modular Approach

There are many advantages to a modular implementation approach when designing digital audio systems. We will discuss modularity in hardware, software and system architecture, as well as its impact on the marketplace. As examples, a general purpose digital audio workstation and a modular hard disk recording system are described.
