M.S. or Ph.D. in EE/CS: SHOULD I GO TO GRADUATE SCHOOL?

Moderator:
Rob Maher, Montana State University
Panelists:
Brian Link, Dolby Laboratories
Dana Massie, Audience, Inc.
Ken Pohlmann, University of Miami

Ever wonder if a Masters Degree or a Ph.D. might be helpful for a research and development career in the audio industry? Panelists will provide advice and suggestions to help determine if seeking a graduate degree is the right career move for you. The session starts with an overview of audio-related graduate education in electrical engineering and computer science in the United States. Specific topics include a review of the common types of graduate programs, how long it takes to get a degree, qualifications and admission requirements, and financial issues. The panelists will then discuss the advantages and disadvantages of graduate education as viewed by hiring managers in the audio industry. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers with the audience. By the end of the session you will have some solid, practical advice on whether or not to take the leap into graduate EE/CS education.
