A Microprocessor-Based NAB Tape Cartridge Machine with Open Reel Quality

The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how the modern technology of microprocessor control can be utilized in conjunction with an improved electromechanical tape transport to provide "open reel like" control and audio quality from the NAB formatted tape cartridge. This paper describes the control aspects of a microprocessor controlled tape recorder/reproducer. This method of control results in improved audio quality from the standard NAB endless loop tape cartridge.
