Two-dimensional patterns were coded by a binaural auditory stimulus. The patterns included squares, triangles, circles, diamonds, stars with as many as eleven points, and other shapes. Subjects were able to identify such patterns with as little as two and a half hours of training. In addition to identifying the shapes, subjects were able to accurately describe the orientation of the patterns.
