An Inertial, Tissue-Contact Type Microphone-Reproducer Unit for Deep Submergence Communications

Document Thumbnail

A communications headset is described for use underwater from near-surface to several hundred feet submergence. It consists essentially of two parallel diaphragms on the opposite sides of a common frame, each having an inertial type vibrator mounted on it. One diaphragm assembly functions as a microphone and the other as a reproducer. The headset is mounted with the microphone diaphragm adjacent to the head to pick up speech; the reproducer is capable of radiating sound for a distance of several feet around the wearer's head.
