New Results for Perception of Phase Distortion

Document Thumbnail

Digital allpass filters having adjustable peak group delay, center frequency of delay, and delay bandwidth were used to determine the quantitative sensitivity to group delay distortion in the mid-frequency range (where the ear is most sensitive). Broadband impulsive test signals (clicks) were first phase distorted different amounts then presented in pairs diotically (same signal at each ear) over earphones.
