Initially, he did research on a stereo teleconferencing system with good sound localization in a wide listening area. Later, he conducted a basic study of psychoacoustics, focusing on the precedence effect and temporary pitch perception, and studied acoustic designs for various kinds of teleconferencing. In 2000, he moved to the Media Technology Development Center, NTT Communications. He developed a web teleconferencing ASP system and a web e-learning ASP system. In 2003, he moved to the Human and Information Science Laboratory, NTT Communication Science Laboratories, where he researched an acoustical telepresence robot that transfers a sound environment in a remote place.
