CINEGRID EXTREME AUDIO NETWORKING WITH 4K AT ILM
Co-moderators: Laurin Herr Peter Otto Craig Mirkin, ILM Host
Abstract: This event, the first large-scale AES event to be held at LucasFilm’s new Letterman Digital Arts Center, will demonstrate the transmission of Super High Definition 4K digital cinema, synched over great distances to uncompressed, multichannel high definition audio. The 4K digital cinema signals will originate from Tokyo and Los Angeles and will be synched with audio streaming from servers at the University of California, San Diego, then viewed and mixed live at the Letterman Digital Arts Center Premier Theater in the San Francisco Presidio. Transmission will be carried over CineGrid, a virtual network for extreme media collaboration running on advanced research networks such as California’s CENIC optical fiber at 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps speeds. The two-hour event will demonstrate the potential for networked delivery of future super high definition entertainment formats to audiences and/or to post-production professionals collaborating over great distances.
Event will be free to participants and buses will be provided to and from the venue. Space is limited.
