The agenda and the report of the previous meeting held in New York , 2003-10-09, were approved without changes or additions.
It was pointed out that the list of 10 essential test items and a list of optional test items was still needed to complete the document and progress with the Call for Comment. However, the action promised at the previous meeting had not materialised. Separately, at the previous meeting of the Technical Committee on Audio Coding, T. Sporer had asked if the test items from the AES Audio Codec Demonstration CD might be adequate for testing audio codecs, but the discussion was inconclusive. Therefore an alternative list of test items must be found.
It was pointed out that at the last MPEG meeting an announcement was made that the IFPI recognized the problem and they plan to provide material for testing purposes. But this will take some time.
Brandenburg noted that a list exists from work in MPEG4 -Audio with a variety of test items (10-20) that are either specially recorded for testing purposes or commercially produced. Most of them are also included in the EBU SQAM CD. The group decided to use this list, revise it and add it to the document. The chair will provide the list by 2004-05-10.
If some items of test material will need clearance, a commercial reference where to find it (recording/ track/ start-time/ length) was felt to be adequate.
Within the next month the list of test items should be finalized so the document with the added list of test items can finally be published for the Call for Comments. It is expected that the final document will be available on the Web site as download but the test items may not be downloadable if the relevant copyright permissions cannot be obtained.
It was also noted that ITU-R 6A is working on a revision of ITU-R BS.1115 (Audio Coding Recommendation).
The next meeting will be held in conjunction with the AES 117th Convention in San Francisco, CA., US., in 2004-10.
