The agenda and report from the previous meeting were accepted as written.
AES-X107 Compilation of technical archives for mechanical media
It was the feeling of the meeting that the current scope of the project is far too wide for a realistic result. Although the necessity of documenting the era of mechanical recording was upheld as an important task, it was suggested that the more appropriate means would be books by the relevant experts rather than through a process of standardisation.
The meeting recommended that this project be retired.
AES-X64 Test Methods and Materials for Archival Mechanical Media
A production cost estimate for these test discs was sent to the AESSC secretariat in 2003-05 but, due to change of Standards Committee Chair, it was put on hold until a new chair had been appointed. We now need to build a complete business case, which includes a advertising plan and budget as well as a clear identification of the intended customers. The secretariat will put together a test case to be evaluated, with a final case to be ready for the 2004-10 meeting for financial approval.
The next meeting is scheduled to be held in conjunction with the AES 117th Convention in San Francisco, CA., US., 2004-10.
