[Last printing 20 August 2001] Report of the SC-03-02 Working Group on Transfer Technologies of the SC-03 Subcommittee on the Preservation and Restoration of Audio Recording meeting, held in conjunction with the AES 110th Convention in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 2001-05-13

Chair L. Gaustad convened the meeting. The agenda was approved. No previous meeting report was available.

Current development projects

AES-X47 Minimum Set of Calibration Tones for Archival Transfer

A PWD is posted on the web, European members of WG were asked to look into it and submit comments to D. Wickstrom. The WG will ask SC-03 to approve a change of the target date for current goal to 2001-09.

AES-X64 Test Methods and Materials for Archival Mechanical Media

Due to the fact that EMI has sold its plant in Hayes, UK, the need for a new production site to be negotiated has prevented the WG from providing a budget. A pressing plant willing to do this kind of work has been found in Holland. A price for the pressing has to be negotiated, and the WG requests a new target date of 2001-09.

AES-X65 Rosetta Tone for Transfer of Historical Mechanical Media

Work is well under way, the relevant tones still have to be decided on, new goal is a proposed PWD with a target date of 2001-09.

AES-X90 Analog Transfer of Audio Program Material

The status of this project is not known to the attending members of the WG, the chair will ask D. Wickstrom to provide a status report. If there is no progress, the WG would like to revise this project scope to retrieval of information from magnetic tapes. The WG requests the current goal be set to 2002-05.

AES-X106 Styli shape and size for transfer of records

The WG decided on a new goal. The project information will be produced by 2001-08.

AES-X107 Compilation of technical archives for mechanical media

The WG will contact relevant bodies within the AES to search for liaisons on this project. Current goal is for the project to be defined by 2001-09.

New projects

No project requests were received or introduced.

New Business

There was no new business.

The next meeting is scheduled to be held in conjunction with the AES 111th Convention in New York, New York, US.
