Penn State's Audio Engineering Society had the extremely good fortune of welcoming AES President-Elect and Grammy Award-winning Recording Engineer Jim Anderson to the State Theatre to give the first in a series of Distinguished Lectures in Audio Engineering. Professor Anderson's talk was entitled "A Recording is not Reality/Reality is not a Recording" which underscored the fact that music recordings do not capture how the music really sounds. Rather, recording engineerings use subtle trickery to make the recording sound "better" than reality. Jim played many of his professional recordings over the State Theatre's impressive sound system and explained the technical nuances that went into crafting recording illusions. The presentation as a whole was definitely a treat for all those who came (this semester's largest turnout!).
