A half-day seminar on audio over IP and streaming was hosted in the beatiful S. Giorgio Maggiore Island in Venice; the event was supported by the Music Institute of Cini Foundation, with the collaboration of AES Itaian Section. Alberto Gaetti opened the seminar with an overview of the ISO/OSI stack and streaming protocols; Graziano Bertini presented an historical background of early attempts to transfer digital audio over networks; Nicola Buso presented state-of-the-art field testing on low latency wide-area networks to enable remote live performance, and Umberto Zanghieri detailed the current panorama of available commercial formats for streaming audio over local area networks. In the afternoon, a live performance by the Arazzi Laptop Ensemble, held in the same room and formed by 8 laptops in total, complemented the scientific presentation.
