Summary

The 10th National Meeting of the Audio Engineering Society Argentina Section, was held during December 16th and 17that the Auditorium Hall of the University of Mendoza in recognition of the work being done by the official Student Section AES IMAS.

We had two very intense days that had a large group of attendees and a level of presentations rarely seen in our country. The local organization, headed by Dr. Eng. Miguel Gantuz (Director of IMAS Institute and Professor at the University of Mendoza) and the General Coordinator Virginia Lioy, was really flawless, with absolutely perfect timing for every conference.

During the first day, we attended superb presentations by the following professionals from Argentina: Fernando Orozco (SAI Records, who showed us different mixing stereo techniques), Indio Gauvron (Chairman of AES Argentina, with a discussion on different types of equalizers), Fabian Prado (musician and producer, former member of renowned blues band Memphis La Blusera, who showed several Musical Production examples), Mario Sanchez (IMAS, who gave a brief talk on room acoustics) and Dr. Eng. Miguel Gantuz (who showed us progress in its development of brain waves recording and their possible applications in audio).

The second day, a complete recording, mixing, mastering and live sound clinic was presented, in a way never made before at an AES Argentina Seminar. Starting with the invaluable participation of Argentine recording guru Jorge "Portugués" Da Silva, who held a practical microphone clinic during the live performance of Christian Soloa (singer, well known winner of the local television contest). Then Adrian Bilbao, renowned live sound engineer, conducted the soundcheck and explained in detail how to operate PA and monitoring for small and large events, live mixing techniques and concepts of Broadcasting. A Digidesign Venue console was used as the main tool to record the concert, operated by Adrián Bilbao and Ricardo Pegnotti. Once the show was recorded Eng. Andrés Mayo gave a Mastering presentation, emphasizing the items that should not be overlooked during the recording and mixing stages so as to avoid problems at the mastering stage.

To close down the Conference, we had a panel with all the speakers which included the presence of Joel Brito, Vice President AES Latin America, where the good level of questions from the specialized audience allowed a rich exchange of experience and knowledge. The organizers reported their satisfaction for having so many distinguished audio professionals from all over the country.
