Summary

This event started and ended with one Penn State staff member and three students carpooling 3.5 hours each way to and from State College and Chester PA. Once at the Community Loudspeakers facilities, the tour began with the vice president, John Wiggins, giving a demo of some of Community's loudspeakers in their dedicated demo room. John also gave a brief overview of the company and its history and entertained our many questions well beyond the schedule. Following the demo, John took us through all five floors of their manufacturing facility which is across the street from their offices. Needless to say, going from a great demo straight to the manufacturing lines where many of Community's speakers are made was a real treat! As a student, it was a privilege to see how the theory taught in classes is applied in the real world and how the ideas of a person or team are brought to life and forged into products. The tour finished with John and one of his engineers taking us to a nearby casino in which Community was contracted to do the sound as one example of how their speakers have been integrated into a building for sound reinforcement.

This was truly a great experience for the lucky few who were able to make the trip! The Penn State AES chapter would like to thank John Wiggins for accommodating us and for taking several hours to personally walk us through their company.
