Summary

On December 2nd, 2022, our student section hosted our third end-of-year event: "III Jornada AES-EMC". It was also our first event to be hosted both virtually and in a face-to-face manner (as opposed to our two previous events which, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, could only be carried out virtually).

The event, which was hosted using Escuela de Música Contemporánea (EMC)'s facilities (more specifically, its recording studio and control room), consisted of 6 talks given by various professionals and spanning a broad range of subjects regarding audio and music production, all of which were approximately 1-hour long.

Our lecturers, who are respected figures from both the local and international scenes, included Jorge Chikiar, Shigant (author of music production manual "El Método Arcoiris"), Mateo Rodo, Mario Breuer and Ian Corbett (professor at Kansas City Kansas Community College and author of renowned recording manual "Mic It!"). And their lectures were as follows:

- "Sample.Ar: librerías de sonido y toma de impulsos". A lecture on (and demonstration of) Sample.Ar, a student project on sample libraries and convolution reverbs in collaboration with fellow Student Sections AES-ECOS and AES-Aural. Not only was this lecture an explanation of what Sample.Ar is, its origins, goals and procedures, but a demonstration of some of its best results so far as well.
- "Pensar en el mundo sonoro" (Jorge Chikiar). A lecture on synthesis, Jorge Chikiar's area of expertise.
- "Cómo crear un sonido exitoso en 8 pasos" (Shigant). A lecture on Shigant's latest book, "El Método Arcoiris", which included a little bit of his backstory and how he went on to become the music producer he is now. At the end, a copy of the book, specially brought by Shigant, was raffled among the attendants.
- "Produciendo un disco" (Mateo Rodo). A lecture on one of Mateo Rodo's latest productions.
- "Lo más importante de la grabación" (Mario Breuer). A lecture on what matters most (and what matters least) when recording a song or album.
- "Live sound for most of us!" (Ian Corbett). A lecture on live sound, Ian Corbett's area of expertise.

The event, which was open to all EMC students and AES members and could be accessed either by personally going to the EMC or via zoom, was quite successful, having numerous attendants from all Argentinean Student Sections as well as various Latin-American Student Sections.

As for our sponsors, special thanks to both Slap (Argentina's official distributor for both Ableton and iCON) and Sonarworks and for the prizes they kindly submitted to us: one iCON M1 condenser microphone, one Ableton Live 11 Suite license and one Sonarworks SoundID Reference license (for speakers and headphones). All prizes were raffled among our attendants at the end of the event and successfully delivered to the winners during the following weeks.
