Summary

For the first official meeting back, AES kicked off with a group zoom meeting led by the
newly appointed AES chair, Julianna. The meeting started with introductions of the new
AES officers starting with the co-chair (Michael), the AV tech (Alan), the mentor leader
(Kelsey), the secretary (Trevor), and the co-secretary (James). Shortly after, Julianna
spoke to the new incoming students about what AES is and what it means to be part of
the AES student body. This relayed into an update on new topics and events in which
students can become involved. First, Trevor spoke about a fun new zoom feature
created by the officeholders called "soundboard". Students can submit a sound, that if
approved, can be used during the meetings as a sound effect! After that, Michael
spoke about the new personal zoom background contest that will be held weekly to
keep students involved and enjoying the meetings. Alan then introduced a new weekly
topic on gear show and tell, where students can show off their home gear and talk
about its technical uses at home or in the studio. Kelsey then led the group in a short,
and much needed breathing exercise to relieve student stress. This was followed by a
group discussion about one positive thing that each student in attendance had
experienced over the break.
Once the discussion ended, the weekly topic began on Finneas and his production for
Billie Eilish. Michael led with a short video on Finneas' use of a match being lit for the
snare sound on a track. This was followed by a critical listening segment led by Alan.
He shared a Logic Pro X session on the Billie Eilish song "Ocean Eyes" and did a
breakdown of each sound that the group could hear. The meeting ended with an
exciting group Kahoot to refresh our memory on the CRAS faculty!
