Meeting Topic: The Ones at 25th Street Recording
Moderator Name: David v.R. Bowles
Speaker Name: Dave Maclaughin, Director of Education for Genelec
Other business or activities at the meeting:
Informal committee discussion on two other co-sponsored activities occurring in the same week. Several of us on the officer committee are actively involved in the organisation of the upcoming 2019 conference, which we discussed with Bob Moses during our last committee meeting. We're setting up our next meeting to be held over voice conferencing, due to the large geographic spread of our committee members. As with the BoG, we intend to conduct polls and committee voting online as well.
We have discussed the need to set up regional student sections, as some of the programmes do not have enough resources to set up their own separate student sections. We feel that this will also encourage students to network with each other and look beyond the boundaries of their respective campuses.
Meeting Location: 25th Street Recording, Oakland, CA USA
This was a demonstration of Genelec's three new speakers designed primarily for the home studio environment. They were set up in the control room at 25th Street Studios, for A/B/C comparison (also switchable to the installed ATC monitors). It was possible for attendees to bring their own audio and listen to the comparisons as well.
I coordinated with two committee members who teach at local colleges with audio programmes. They brought a total of 30 students with them. I spoke at length with the students about the AES, the importance of joining and participating in local and regional events (such as the upcoming conference in 2019).
