About two dozen members of the San Francisco section gathered at Universal Audio's Scotts Valley headquarters for a behind the scenes tour of the legendary Studio 610. UA owner, Bill Putnam Jr., shared stories about the heritage of the company and the invention and adventures of his father, Bill Putnam, Sr.
The project manager, Will Shanks, discussed the philosophy behind the creation and development of the UAD plugin emulations and the group got hands on demos of the newest release of a buss compressor. He also shared some of the science behind the QA testing and hinted at future project developments.
Members spent the remainder of the visit moving between control rooms, listening to different UA plugins, comparing some to the outboard gear which they emulate.
