Summary

The February 22nd AES production meeting started off at 8:00 PM with a small introduction of the student chapter office holders. Once the introductions were finished, the current upcoming schedule for all CRAS AES events was reviewed. The very next two AES event we are hosting will unfortunately only be available for PM students, as the tours are scheduled for the morning. First up we have the long awaited Anechoic Chamber Tour with National Technical Systems (NTS) on Thursday, February 25th from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. This company, while not directly involved in audio, has been kind enough to allow us to tour their anechoic chambers. A few members of the staff at NTS have a wide breadth of knowledge concerning how these chambers relate to audio and will be able to share their experience and knowledge with up to 12 students who wish to attend. Secondly, the Les Paul Experience will be held at Arizona State University on Friday, February 26th, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. This event is outside of CRAS and we are grateful for ASU to allow us a window to check out this event. After these two events, each following event will be available to all students. First up we have AEA Microphones visiting CRAS on March 16th at 8:00 PM. AEA Microphones will be conducting a presentation, participating in the orchestra clinic with students in 7th cycle, as well as announcing the winner of the AEA Mix contest, which started February 15th and runs until March 11th. The winner of this contest will be awarded an AEA Stereo Bar valued at $250. All students have access to the mix files online and are able to participate in the contest. Immediately following AEA's visit with CRAS, we will be conducting the XLR Mic build on both March 17th and March 19th. After these two days, the next event scheduled will not take place until May 14th. This event will be the $300 Ribbon Mic build. Details for this build will be coming up as we get closer to the date.

After discussing all the current scheduled events, the floor was opened for discussion about possible future events. A few key events being discussed are a few tours, such as a tour of Lamont Studios and the Musical Instrument Museum. A possible revisit to Pyramix Studios was also discussed as a possibility for those students who were not here when the last visit took place. Additionally, Lev Lewis, who presented a clinic covering Ableton Live, is available for an advanced clinic, which will be a continuation of his last presentation. A new idea that was discussed was a music theory clinic that will be created and presented by students with knowledge of music theory. Additionally, a student mentioned an audio engineer named Irko, who is a multi platinum award winning engineer. Irko will be visiting the Phoenix area near the end of March and will be in contact with AES within the next few days. If we are able to facilitate his visit, this event will more than likely become another mandatory event in a similar vein as Luca Pretolesi. After discussing all the possible future events, attendees were welcomed to sign up for both the Anechoic Chamber Tour and the Les Paul Experience. Once this was completed, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.

Future Ideas:
MIM Tour
Anechoic Chamber Tour
Student Run Live Concert
Retro Sound Card Adaptation
Lamont Studio Tour
Advanced Ableton Clinic with Lev Lewis
Music Theory Clinic
CRAS Cast
