Summary

The February 8th AES production meeting started off at 8:00 PM with a small introduction of the student chapter office holders. Once the introductions were finished, the current upcoming schedule for all CRAS AES events was reviewed. The very next AES event will be this coming Thursday, Feb 11th, at 8 PM. This event will be a Vinyl Clinic, covering the history of vinyl, as well as a demonstration which all students are invited to partake by brining in their own vinyl records. The following event is a mandatory event for all CRAS students on Friday February 19th visit by Luca Pretolesi, the chief engineer at Studio DMI who is a well known producer/mix engineer from Las Vegas. Luca will be visiting the campus from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM to allow for all students, regardless of schedule, to attend. Coming up February 15th, the CRAS AES student chapter will be holding a mix contest sponsored by AEA Microphones. Students will have a month long timeframe for which they may submit mixes for the contest. AEA Microphones will be visiting CRAS March 16 at 8 PM for a presentation and to declare the winner of the mix contest, who will win a stereo bar for microphone placement, valued at around $250. The CRAS AES student chapter will also be conducting an Internship Bootcamp on Thursday, March 24th, which will entail many different "stations" which will focus on various aspects of expectations and exercises to prepare students for the many obstacles that they could face when they start their internship upon graduating. This event will only be open to 40 students so a sign up sheet will be available 2-3 weeks prior to the night of the bootcamp. There will be friendly competition between the students as the 40 students will be broken up into teams and each team will be graded on their performance. The best team of the bootcamp will end up winning various prizes, to be determined before the bootcamp commences. After these events were discussed, the potential ideas for future events were reviewed and discussed. A few key events that are up and coming are a Pro Tools clinic, which will be over workflow and preferences, and a tour of the Musical Instruments Museum tour. A possible tour of an anechoic chamber is also in the works as AES is in communication with National Technical Systems, who uses their anechoic chamber for purposes not related to audio manufacturing. This company has 20 different chambers for testing purposes. After the attendees had finished discussing potential future events and enough brainstorming had taken place, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.
