Summary

After Neight introduced himself he launched a new session in Logic, made an instrument track and opened up the software instrument Ultrabeat. Ultrabeat has built in sequences and different kits. You can also design your own sequence patterns within Ultrabeat. Neight demonstrated this by going into piano roll and making a very simple 4/4 beat for a quick example.

After going through different patterns Neight went into the Mix window for mixing tricks. He showed the students that by multi-tracking the different sounds of the kit, you can add effects to each track separately. He went on to show that instead of creating your own drum tracks there is an option to use the drummer tracks with different preset sequences. On a new track he opened up his own samples that he made from beat-boxing. This way is much better then using loops according to Neight.

He then brought up Logic's new software instrument called Alchemy and showed us different automation tricks. Afterwards he opened up retro synth, went to midi effects and explained a Logic feature called chord trigger. If you're not the best keyboard player and don't understand chords or chord progression then chord trigger is a great way to learn.

After we turned on the arpeggiator and the pulsator to try and find the right frequency to resonate the lights in the live sound room. After all was said and done those who thought they were heading into a basic Logic tutorial ended up leaving with advanced tips and tricks they never knew existed.
