Summary

As the gathering of trainees collected in our live sound room, the masterminds behind the bootcamp emerged. Instructions were given as follows, everyone would break up into teams of four. The students were divided into teams with equal amounts of lower and higher cycle students in each team. There were four different stages of the event. Each stage is 15 minutes and the teams must assigning a different manager for each stage.

The Kitchen:
CRAS Internship Coordinator Dave Torres was in charge of the Kitchen stage. With the clock ticking away students had to quickly had to put a menu together, get orders from any staff on campus, get the food out the door, and made sure that it was exactly what was ordered. While at this stage the students were also responsible for making sure the campus was clean while CRAS Director of Student Services Greg Stefus went around making messes just to see who was paying attention.

The Studio:
The next stage was ran by CRAS Instructor and AES Faculty Co Advisor David Kohr. In this stage students were asked to route five different mic's through an analog console and recorded into Pro Tools. There were three SM57's, one SM58 and one AT4050. They were asked to route each differently with the AT4050 getting compression from a DBX160 sert at a 4:1 ratio, -10dB gain reduction and level matched so the output matched the input and then add reverb to the three SM57's from a PCM80. There were a lot of patches involved and the students had to work together to get the tasks completed.

Live Sound:
The Live Sound stage was ran by CRAS Instructor Keith Morris. Students were tasked with troubling shooting connections, fixing bad wiring, cleaning all of the amp filters, and making the club p.a. systems look brand new and fresh out of the box.

Front Office:
The final stage was with CRAS Internship Coordinator Rachel Ludeman where she had the students panning for a party by gathering transportation, catering, entertainment, alcohol options. She also conducted mini one on one interviews with the students.

When all was said and done all of us learned the realities of internship. from tips on how to present yourself at an interview (handshake, body language, etc.) to getting the task at hand done right and in a timely manner.
