KAS Music and Sound Tour August 18, 2014 2PM to 5PM

The AES NY Section hosted a tour of Kaufman Astoria Studios in Astoria, Queens, NY from 2:00-5:00PM on August 22nd, 2014. The event was produced by AES NY Section Vice Chair Daniel Gaydos and hosted by AES Institute of Audio Research Student Section President Anthony Corleto and Vice President Kwame Dickerson. Roll call was conducted prior to processing through the security checkpoint at 2:00PM with 33 guests in attendance.

After giving a brief summary of the events to come, Anthony and Kwame led the group to the basement level of the complex where the guests were greeted by Executive Creative Director Joe Castellon and Assistant Engineer Bernard Fox. Mr. Castellon and Mr. Fox led the group through the live rooms and isolation booths of Studio A and B, teaching about the compelling history of the complex along the way.

After touring the recording section, the group was directed to the control room, where Mr. Castellon had prepared a demo session on the studio's Neve V3, in which guests were encouraged to handle and familiarize themselves with the console.

Following the control room demo, the tour was guided through various film sets, including Sesame Place (Sesame Street), Nurse Jackie, and Orange Is The New Black as well as the in house carpentry facility.

Concluding the tour where it began, Mr. Castellon and Mr. Fox were happy to stick around and converse with the group until the last guests left.
