Summary

Gina Fant-Saez, creator of eSession.com, spoke to the MTSU section about her company and online collaboration. She began by giving her personal history in the audio industry, starting with her first PC and early MIDI gear in the 1980s. She went on to talk about her experience with the first digital audio applications and her early adoption of Pro Tools. She operated a Pro Tools studio for many years, but when demand tapered off as Pro Tools moved into the home she sold her SSL console and used the money to begin development of eSession.com. She then gave a detailed tour of the site, which has been in development for over 2 years. Her tour showed that eSession is a top to bottom solution for finding and hiring musicians, negotiating payment, sending and receiving payments, and managing project files. She also showed eSession's upcoming remote production plugin that allows realtime, face to face interaction and audio streaming during recording over broadband internet connections. Unlike other plugins which require confusing and awkward network setup, eSession's plugin borrows technology from the gaming industry to avoid such hassles. Gina then fielded questions from the members, which led into her speaking for a while about some other music collaboration sites and how they compare to eSession. All of the members and guests were very impressed with eSession and learned a great deal.
