Summary

In this meeting, we held a workshop. The two topics of this workshop consisted of a basic electronics tutorial and an explanation of the basic principles behind the Ambisonics system. We began by unsoldering and resoldering componets off of a circuit board. We discussed soldering techniques such as tinning, using a soldier removal tool and wicks. We also discussed avoiding cold joints. Dr. Chen also discussed the principles behind the Ambisonics system. Ambisonics is a series of recording and replay techniques using multichannel mixing technology that can be used live or in the studio. With the Ambisonics system, sound information is encoded and decoded on a number of channels and a sound field can be represented. Ambisonics is an isotropic system in which sounds arriving from all directions are treated equally.
