Summary

Last August 10th at the ORION audio school AES ARGENTINA received Eric Kuschevatzky, who took us all through his "Development Technologies & Programming Techniques" seminar, working in the studio with several virtual instruments. Eric has studied music in Buenos Aires and later completed a course in Contemporary Writing, Production & Film Scoring in Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA). He has worked in Hollywood for Randy Newman and has assisted to many clinics with composers such as John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard and Alf Clausen.

At ORION, every piece of computer hardware used in the studio nowadays was analyzed, including motherboards, processors, ROM and RAM memory, and the relationship among them in the audio final result. Eric made clear distinctions between 32 and 64 bits capabilities and how engineers must take that into account when getting together parts as a hole. New trends were also presented: using tablets such as iPad as a control surface for the different DAWs, connecting many computers via MIDI when lots of virtual instruments are used, and different ways of approaching film scoring goals without compromising audio quality.

On behalf of the AES ARGENTINA, we would like to thank Eric Kuschevatzky for sharing with all of us his time and vast knowledge.
