About

Magdalena Piotrowska (Plewa) is an active mastering engineer and educator based in Poland.

Magdalena Piotrowska received the doctoral degree with distinction at the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, Gdansk University of Technology (GUT), Poland. Her thesis "Automatic Mood Indexing of Music Excerpts based on Correlation Between Subjective Evaluation and Feature Vector', was dedicated to Music Information Retrieval. Uniting her passion for sound and international travel, Magdalena participated in postgraduate studies in Music Production and Recording at the University of Stavanger in Norway as well as in the recording program at the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada).

In 2016 she established Hear Candy Mastering, where she provides mastering for artists across a diverse range of musical genres, including Quantum Trio (PL), MoMo (PL), Kapela Timingeriu (PL), Merkabah (PL), Hrdza (SL), KARI (UK), Oly.(PL), Knut Kvifte Nesheim (NO) and Annalie Wilson (UK). A production that she worked on has been nominated numerous times for a Fryderyki Awards.

Since 2013 Magdalena has served the Society as Governor, Education Committee Vice Chair and being involved in convention committees as Workshops&Tutorials Co-Chair and Student and Career track in Europe and US. Recently she is Education Committee Chair.

Magdalena is one of the founding members of the AES Student Section in Krakow, Poland (2009) and was elected to the AES Student Delegate Assembly (2010-2012) culminating in her serving as Education and Student Events Co-Chair for the 132nd AES Convention in Budapest.
She is a co-founder of the Central European Student Summit, an annual event that brings together European AES Student Members.

Magdalena has lead classes in audio subjects at universities in Poland (AGH, AMA, Kraków; PJWSTK, Warszawa, Gdansk University of Technology, Uniwersystet Śląski, Cieszyn). She is one of the co-founders of educational initiative Learn How To Sound organizing workshops and courses in field of audio. Magdalena was awarded the Ministers of Science and Higher Education Scholarship as well as study grants from the Committee for International Research and Education, the Acoustical Society of America and the Audio Engineering Society Educational Foundation.

Magdalena was involved in numerous research projects in field of acoustics and audio engineering as well as in educational initiatives. She is the author and co-author of scientific papers presented at numerous international conferences, including AES Conventions. Her main scientific interests are music information retrieval,psychoacoustics, signal processing and connections between science and practical application in the field of audio technology.
