Job Description

Monitor Audio is looking for an acoustics engineer who has a minimum of 2 years experience in loudspeaker and transducer design to join our acoustic design team.

The acoustic design team operates within R&D, alongside Software, Electronics, Product design and Project Management. Operating within a wide team of experts is a great opportunity to learn and develop your career.

At Monitor Audio you will have access to state-of-the-art equipment for developing and measuring loudspeakers and associated electronics. As an acoustic engineer you will be responsible for the acoustic design of our loudspeakers and all aspects of the product that relate to sound quality. This includes the transducer design, cabinet tuning, passive crossover design and DSP tuning in active products. Additionally, the acoustics team is responsible for the design and testing of the acoustic elements of Roksan’s turntables, such as tone arms.

Monitor Audio is looking for people with a proactive attitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and theoretical knowledge of the basic concepts. This will include, acoustics, psychoacoustics, vibroacoustics, structural mechanics, electro-magnetics, and electronics.

Education & Work Experience

  • 2:1 Degree or Masters in Acoustics or other numerical based science with an emphasis on acoustics
  • 2 or more years work experience designing loudspeakers and transducers.

Essential Skills

The candidate should possess the following skills:

  • Electro-acoustic transducer design for loudspeakers.
  • Loudspeaker system design including enclosure and passive crossover design.
  • Critical listening.
  • Loudspeaker measurement & analysis

Good to have, not essential

  • Experience with COMSOL Multiphysics FEA/BEM simulation.
  • Experience using CAD software E.G Autodesk or Dassault Systèmes packages.
  • Knowledge of Electronics.
  • Experience using MATLAB.
  • Experience using DSP (E.G EQ, Limiters).
  • Musical background, playing, recording or sound engineering

Main Responsibilities

  • Design of the acoustic elements of loudspeakers including transducers, crossovers, and the specification and tuning of any associated electronics.
  • Delivery of work on time, communicating all risks.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge within the relevant fields.
  • Encouraging team working and the sharing of new information or knowledge.
  • Developing new ideas to further progress the sound quality of our products.
  • Maintaining a strong working relationship with other teams around the business.
