Bowers & Wilkins are currently looking to recruit a Research Engineer at their Southwater Research & Engineering facility in West Sussex to help support research and development activities. The Research Engineer will be required to perform acoustic, mechanical and electromagnetic simulations and measurements, in the context of transducer design, loudspeaker system design and room acoustics.

This role involves close collaboration with Product Development, Production Engineering and Manufacturing teams. The job involves a wide and varied range of tasks which would include creative problem solving based on finite elements analysis, prototype building and acoustic and structural measurements and model evaluation. The ideal candidate will probably have experience working in a Research & Development environment already; be self-directing and have a proven ability to project manage.

Duties & Responsibilities:


- Create and maintain COMSOL simulation methods (or improve existing ones) covering acoustic, mechanical and electromagnetic domains
- Use analytical and numerical mathematical modelling, with the help of MATLAB and/or other software, in the design and evaluation of transducers, loudspeaker systems and room acoustics
- Design and perform measurements and experiments using appropriate test equipment (covering mechanical, acoustic, electrical and magnetic tests) to validate the above simulation and modelling work
- Investigate any other matters related to numerical simulations, experimental procedures or new technologies relevant to the R&D activities
- Ensure effective knowledge transfer of all results to the rest of the R&D team through presentations
- Attend academic conferences and exhibitions
- Collaborate with universities and supervise student projects and internships
- Cooperate with the development team in preparing and performing listening tests
- Perform any other technical duties as assigned

Requirements:


- M.Sc. or PhD. in Acoustics, Electroacoustics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or any similar subject
- In-depth understanding of audio systems physical working principles
- Familiar with COMSOL finite element package (or equivalent)
- Basic knowledge of linear and nonlinear loudspeaker modelling
- Basic knowledge of the Klippel R&D system
- Good knowledge of MATLAB or an equivalent language
