TT1 - Sonic Emotion/Ink Production
Abstract:
Ink Production is an innovative Sound Post Production facility located downtown Paris. The building has more than 60 years of history for production, post production, dubbing for motion pictures and TV shows. It has recently been entirely refurbished with high end equipment (first ATMOS mixing stage in France, equipped with a full EXP Meyer Sound loudspeaker system). Ink Production is hosting Sonic Emotion Labs for 8 years developing a synergetic approach to sound mixing innovation.
The technical tour will offer a visit of the facilities and a demo in the ATMOS mixing stage of 3D Wave Field Synthesis with the Wave I processor developed by Sonic Emotion Labs. It will echo several events of the convention (papers P9 on Live Sound Mixing, P 21 on open 3D audio production, tutorial T7 on WFS Object Based Mixing) offering sound demonstrations in a full 3D WFS environment. The technical tour will be animated by the staff of Sonic Emotion Labs and Ink Production together with special guests Eric Berrard, FOH sound engineer, who used the Wave I in a tour of 23 shows in Arenas throughout France, Belgium and Switzerland (R.E.D. Tour 2015, M Pokora) and Frédéric Changenet, sound engineer at Radio France, who has been using the Wave I in many productions and shows over the last 3 years. The tour and the demos are organized in the context of the Edison 3D project that is coordinated by Sonic Emotion Labs, with Radio France, Télécom Paristech, Ecole Polytechnique, University of Western Brittany and b<>com as partners. The project is dedicated to the research and development of open 3D audio production tools and methods for the next generation of immersive audio formats.

TT2 - Ferber Studios
Abstract:
In 1973 René Ameline, a very well known sound recording engineer, created the Ferber Sudios in the heart of the “La Campagne à Paris” district. Created with a remarkable acoustic environment by this three times Grammy award winner, the Ferber Studios quickly became a place of reference. To this day they remain the place to go for music and film music recording. Over the past 40 years since their creation, many of the world’s greatest artists have made their way to the Ferber Studios. Right from the start many French singers and musicians such as, Christophe, Salvator Adamo, Bernard Lavilliers became regulars, joined by Marc Cerrone, Jean-Michel Jarre, Michel Petrucciani, Richard Galliano, with frequent visits from Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Dutronc, Claude Nougaro; Alain Suchon, Juliette Greco, Charles Aznavour, Henri Salvador, Francis Cabrel, plus of course Manu Chao, Noir Désir, Alain Bashung, Philippe Katerine, Vanessa Paradis, OxmoPuccino, Martin Solveig, and many others. Many international artistes such as Cat Stevens, Frank Zappa, Nina Simone, Black Sabbath, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola , Paco de Lucia, Luz Casal, Bryan ferry, but alsoFeist, ConnanMockasin, Lianne la Havas, The Kills , Franz Ferdinand, Saul Williams, or Chilly Gonzales, Neil Young, also use the
exceptional facilities and benefit from the ambience of the Ferber studios. The Ferber Studios are also highly sought after venue for the recording of film music, television series and
advertising, favored by composers and arrangers such as Gabriel Yared, Alexandre Desplat, Serge Gainsbourg, Jean-Claude Vannier, June Miyake, Brunio Coulais, Emir Kusturica, Eric Neveux, to name but a few! Films and television series recorded at the Ferber Studios include “Peur sur la ville,” “Elisa,” “Gainsbouirg Vie Héroïque,” “Les Enfants du Rock,” Len Ben & Berthie Show.” Nowadays, the Ferber Studios are developing further and also offer facilities and services in the areas of professional audio maintenance, control rooms for studio musicians, film and television filming, and photo sessions–particularly for the fashion sector.

TT3 - Opéra Bastille
Abstract:
Opéra Bastille is the grand, modern opera venue in Paris. Opened in 1989 it offers space for 2700 spectators, all of which can enjoy the performance without sightline obstruction. It is used mainly for opera performances, tailored stage machinery helps create the perfect illusion: With 9 stages the largest stage area of any opera house, Bastille truly enables parallel work on different productions. Mr. Hugue from the Technical Direction and Mr. Dupont from the Sound Departement of the Opéra National will lead the tour. Acoustical explanation will be given by W. Lachenmayr, Müller-BBM.

TT4 - Musélec, A Passion for Sound with Klaus Blasquiz
Abstract:
Save, protect, restore, document, inform, relate, describe, demonstrate, display, and share. These are the aims of Musélec – the Klaus Blasquiz Electroacoustic Museum. There are microphones galore, loudspeaker cabinets of every type, headphones, tape recorders, engraving machines, preamplifiers, reverberation units, echo units, equalizers, turntables pickups, electrical and electronic musical instruments, telephones, radios are just waiting to be discovered. This is a real “caverne d’alibaba” for those interested in the history of audio.

TT5 - Opéra Garnier
Abstract:
Opéra Garnier is the institutionalized “grand dame” of the Parisian opera. Designed and built by Charles Garnier it was supposedly not clear to him if the acoustics would be quite satisfactory for its opening in 1875. The worries were unjustified; the sound is beautiful – a traditional opera house par excellence, enhanced by the more recent ceiling painting by Chagall. Foyers and back stage architecture offer an insight into the cultural world of dance and opera at the time. Mr. Gouhier from the Technical Direction and Mr. Breant from the Sound Departement of Opéra National will guide through the house with explanations regarding the acoustics from Mr. Lachenmayr (Müller-BBM).

TT6 - Yellow Cab Studios
Abstract:
YELLOW CAB Studios was created in 1998 by Eric Lesachet and Steven Ghouti as a post production company specializing in sound-for-picture. Starting out as a one studio facility, we now have 3 mixing studios and what is probably the largest Foley and ADR recording studio in France. The latter is a recent addition to the company and required that we open a new location in Aubervilliers, in the Northern Paris suburbs.
Studio D—as it is known—is purpose built for foley sessions for both film and television projects. We intended to give it a blend between tried and trusted audio technology and newer takes on the French way of recording Foley and ADR (in France, the recording engineer, or sound mixer, is in the same room as the talent instead of a in a separate control room). A Foley studio is never really finished and can always be seen as work in progress as we try to improve the studio from user comments. (Foley artists sometimes have quirky ideas, but some actually work!)
The studio build took place in 2013, starting in July and ended just in time for the first Foley session in December. The room has variable acoustics, with a dual-zone revolving ceiling (reflective/absorbent) and four independent sets of motorized drapes.We run both Pro Tools and Nuendo, to cater for most
requests from Foley Mixers, as well as to conform to our own
in-house workflow that is heavily based on Steinberg's Nuendo.
We are pleased to welcome the AES to our facility for this technical tour.

TT7 - Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris
Abstract:
The CNSMDP is a public administrative teaching establishment under the guidance of the ministry of culture. The conservatoire is one of the important art schools and is a member of the PSL – Research University Paris. Located since twenty years on the site of la Villete, the Paris Conservatoire has always sought to take up the challenges of a pedagogy and transmission where tradition, creation, reflection and research each have their place, making this school a wellspring for tomorrow’s creators. The school trains the performers, composers, musicologists and musician-sound engineers of the future.
The Conservatoire has an exceptional audiovisual infrastructure for a pedagogical institution. Students of the course benefit from the rich opportunities: more than three hundred concerts a year in halls of different acoustics including some outside the conservatoire. They also benefit from audiovisual equipment that is unique for a pedagogical setting: recording and post-production studios that include two multichannel studios (SSL C300), a multitrack studio (SSL4000G+), several studios offering a range of equipment and several post-production studios. The course offers three personalized streams, working towards three professional music sectors:
• Record production for disc, radio, television and internet.
• Live performance
• Creation
The technical tour will offer a visit of 3 studios with 3 demos organized in each studio: 13:30-14h:30-15h30
Demos: Audio-Visual Department and students of the school.
I- Régie RGPO and Vincent Meyer’s hall—Headphones for binaural listening with head-tracking
II- Studio 240—Analog recording
III- Studio Schaeffer—Musical production and 3D immersion for 5.1 and 2.0 setting. Teaching multichannel sound recording technics dedicated to music production
This tour is primarily for students and educators.
