Theresa Leonard is a well known music producer and audio educator. For over 20 years, she served as Director of Audio at The Banff Centre in Canada where she was responsible for directing the internationally-known audio practicum area and directing all activities in the Centre’s extensive audio facilities. Ms. Leonard worked closely with top industry professionals who served as guest faculty members for music production, engineering and sound for picture. She continues to be instrumental in helping audio practicum participants obtain key positions in the professional audio industry.
Ms. Leonard holds a Master of Music degree in sound recording, from McGill University, and bachelor degrees in music and education. Her work spans music and audio production, engineering, education and research. She has produced and engineered award-winning recordings for many labels including Analekta, Bravo!, Centaur, EMI, Honens and NAXOS, and received outstanding reviews for this work in The New York Times and The New Yorker, among other publications. In 2008, she was invited as a guest research professor to Bang & Olufsen in Denmark and in 2015 was Visiting Scholar at New York University Steinhardt School.
At the Banff Centre, Ms.Leonard chaired the 24th International Audio Engineering Society (AES) Conference on Multichannel Audio, June 2003, and facilitated the Stanford Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) summer workshop in 2004. She has been invited to speak at numerous institutions and conferences, including: AES Brazil, The Peabody Conservatory, The Chopin Academy of Music, Warsaw, Gdansk Technical University (Poland), New York University, and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et De Danse De Paris (France).
Ms. Leonard served as AES president for the 2004/2005 year and as education chair for the Society and is founder of the Alberta section of the AES. She received an AES Fellowship in New York City in 2013 for her professional achievements and dedication to the AES and its Education initiatives.
