Piotr Kleczkowski received a M.Sc. (Tech.) in electronic engineering from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow, Poland, and has been working there since 1981. His first areas of research were sound synthesis and implementations of first DSP processors. He was a visiting researcher at Cardiff University in the U.K. in 1985-1986. He received a Ph.D. degree from the AGH University in 1990. Currently he is a professor at the AGH University, in the Department of Mechanics and Vibroacoustics, and head of the Audio Engineering Group. In the 90’s, he managed his own firm that developed and manufactured quality audio interfaces for PC computers and associated software, which found wide-spread use in Polish broadcast and recording studios and was nominated for Niptel Media Prize in 1997. In the term of 1990-1994, he served as a member of the City Council in Cracow. His current research interests include psychoacoustics, with a focus on simultaneous perception of sounds, and processing of audio signals, with a focus on time-frequency processing. He wrote a monograph on sound mixing in the time-frequency domain, a textbook on psychoacoustics and co-authored a textbook on environmental protection. He was the main founder of the field of study in Acoustical Engineering in the AGH University and now he is its supervisor. He lectures on principles of audio engineering, psychoacoustics, digital audio, and environmental protection (some of them in English). He has been holding several positions in the Polish Section of the AES, and he is a member of the Polish Acoustical Society and of the Polish Society for Electroacoustic Music.
