Markus Schnell got the Diploma-Degree in 2004 at the Technical University of Ilmenau. Right after he joined Fraunhofer IIS and started to work on low delay audio coding. He joined the MPEG audio group for the
standardization of the MPEG-4 AAC-ELD codec, which was finalized in 2008. Since 2009, he is an active member in the 3GPP SA4 standardization group and contributed to the Enhanced Voice Service (EVS) codec project, the
next generation codec for mobile communication services finally selected in November 2014. Today he is the head of the low delay audio coding group at Fraunhofer IIS and responsible for maintenance and further development
of low delay audio coding formats.
