Edward B. Stokes

Ed Stokes is an electrical engineering educator and a lifelong aficionado of music electronics. His industrial and academic experience is in research and development of semiconductor optoelectronic devices, particularly light emitting diodes (LEDs) for next-generation illumination applications. Ed is also a musician, proficient on several instruments including banjo, bass, guitar, and keyboards. He often runs live sound during performances, and he operates a digital recording studio in his home. Over the last few years, he has developed and taught a senior elective EE course on “Electronic Music Synthesis” at UNC Charlotte, where he has been an EE professor since 2002. Before that he was a Staff Scientist for 16 years at the General Electric Global Research Center in Schenectady, NY. Ed received his Ph.D. in Physics in 1996 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY.
