Brecht De Man is a researcher, audio engineer and musician. He studied Electronic Engineering at the University of Ghent and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich. Combining his experience as a recording engineer and live sound engineer, musicianship and engineering education, he started a PhD in Audio Engineering at the Centre for Digital Music at Queen Mary University of London. He has published and presented research on intelligent audio production tools and the psychoacoustics of recording engineering. For this, he received the HARMAN Scholarship from the AES Educational Foundation in 2013-2014, and again in 2014-2015. From 2015 onwards, his PhD research is funded by a studentship from Yamaha.

Brecht chairs the Student Delegate Assembly for Europe and International Regions, the AES London UK Student Chapter, and the international AES Student event Up Your Output! 2015 in London, and is a committee member of the British Section.
