As a teenager Steven was an audiophile and drummer. While studying music at the University of Miami, he seized the opportunity to engineer at the world renowned Criteria recording facility in Miami, Florida – As an understudy of such acclaimed recording engineers as Tom Dowd and Karl Richardson, Steven went on to become senior recording engineer at Criteria Studios in 1976. He recorded multiple Gold and Platinum RIAA certified records and worked with a diverse range of acts including Barry Gibb, Ted Nugent, Eric Clapton, The Dead Boys and Kenny Rogers (to name a few). Off time at the studio was spent pursuing his other passion – Building. After buying, remodeling, then selling his homes; He designed and built his first house from the ground up in 1976. While senior engineer at Criteria, he oversaw upgrading and remodel of the facility. In charge of studio continuity he was integral in the design process.

Steven moved to California in 1985 and became a licensed contractor in 1987. Building on his experience as a recording engineer and finish carpenter, he began gaining a reputation in the Los Angeles area for custom built acoustical products, acoustical consulting services and recording studio renovation. It was the demand for his products and services that led him to found a full service company for acoustical solutions. Since the inception of The Sound Control Room, Steven has overseen hundreds of projects locally, nationally, and internationally. The same care and attention is taken whether the project is small or
large, residential or commercial.

Steven has been invited to speak on many subjects, including the building and acoustics at a conferences sponsored by the AES and Tape-Op.
