Ronald Quan holds a BSEE degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He currently holds more than 80 United States patents in the fields of audio and video signals and circuits. The subjects of these patents include low noise amplifiers, integrated circuits, audio test equipment, analog video scrambling, and audio scrambling. He has worked for Ampex, Sony, Hewlett Packard, and Rovi, where he held the position of Principal Engineer. In 2012, he wrote a book on radio and electronics.
