TT1 - RAI Saxa Rubra
Abstract:
RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana is the Italian public broadcaster that operates more than 40 television and radio channels on the national territory and abroad. RAI Saxa Rubra is the largest and most important broadcast production center in Italy. Built in the early 1990s it occupies 190.000 m2, it is active 24/7, and includes 16 digital production stages, 70 editing rooms, and 10 graphics studios. In addition to TV and radio productions, the center hosts the RaiWay headquarters in charge of managing the incoming and outgoing on-air feed transmissions. The tour will give participants the unique opportunity to visit the main production areas and to explore the facilities where the most popular Italian television and radio programs are produced.

TT2 - Forum Music Village + Auditorium Parco della Musica di Renzo Piano
Abstract:
The Auditorium Parco della Musica, designed by the world-famous architect Renzo Piano, is Rome’s most important cultural and urban development project since the 1960s. Within its sophisticated musical architecture, the Auditorium hosts not only all genres of music but all the other arts as well. Its three principal halls, Petrassi (seats 700 people), Sinopoli (seats 1200), and Santa Cecilia (seats 2800), are genuine “sound-boxes,” three gigantic musical instruments suspended at a 30,000 square-meter hanging structure. The large Cavea surrounded by the three halls is, in effect, a real Italian piazza, functioning both as a meeting place and as an open-air theater. A tour of the Auditorium Parco della Musica, gives the visitor a full understanding of the history, the architecture, the cultural and urban value of Renzo Piano’s great Auditorium. The itinerary includes the Cavea, the Foyer with the Archaeological Museum, and the concert halls. For the AES participants only, the tour will also be enriched by a detailed visit to the two recording studios and the main stage where great music of any genre is produced, giving the visitors the opportunity to receive technical presentations on recording and mixing techniques.
And this very special tour will continue to the Forum Music Village Studios. Founded in 1969 by Ennio Morricone, Armando Trovajoli, Luis Bacalov, Piero Piccioni and producer/studio manager Enrico De Meli, Forum Music Village is today one of the most prestigious and best sounding recording studio in Italy and abroad. Founder and Academy Award Winner Ennio Morricone has been using the studio A that can accommodate up to 100 pieces to create his masterpieces for the past forty years, and Forum has hosted many directors who have worked alongside him including Academy Award Winners Brian DePalma, Oliver Stone, and Barry Levinson. The Oscar winning scores of Il Postino by Luiz Bacalov and Life is Beautiful by Nicola Piovani were also recorded in Studio A. Forum has played host to some of the most prominent artists in the music industry as well. Quincy Jones, Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Will. I. Am, Morrisey, and Cher are just some of the multiple Grammy award winners and nominees who have recorded and mixed in this facility.

TT3 - Cinecittà Studios + Deluxe Sound
Abstract:
Cinecittà Studios offers a guided tour of their permanent facilities and sets. The Outdoor Set Visit gives visitors the opportunity to take a look at film production behind the scenes. As you step across the threshold separating the real world from this world of wonders you will feel that you have encountered a myth and when you leave Cinecittà you will understand why they call it the Dream Factory. That same feeling is what inspired Federico Fellini, what convinced Scorsese to shoot his Gangs of New York here, and what continues to drive so many directors to work there. During the visit through the world of Cinecittà you will be accompanied by professional tour guides with degrees in Film or Art History. The visit includes the two sets for Gangs of New York and Ancient Rome and obviously the Cinecittà Shows Off Visit. Furthermore, the tour will take you to explore the sound facilities of the Deluxe Digital Rome Audio including four dubbing rooms, four theatrical mixing rooms, and three editing rooms.

TT4 - Technicolor via Urbana
Abstract:
Legendary leader in European audio postproduction for over 50 years (formerly known as International Recording) Technicolor Rome is located in the heart of the city center and is at the forefront of digital innovation. Visitors will be guided through its state of the art recording and mixing facilities where advanced audio services and sound technologies are offered to content creators and distributors. They include12 ADR Stages, 7 Mixing Stages (5 theatrical, 2 broadcast), 1 Foley Stage, 1 Music Control Room, and 18 Picture Edit Suites.

TT5 - FonoRoma - Foley Demonstration
Abstract:
In one of the most prestigious and historical audio postproduction centers in Rome, founded in 1931 and dedicated to dubbing, sound editing and mixing, Davide Dell’Ariccia and Andrea Caucci, two of the most acclaimed Italian Foley artists will give a special demonstration to AES participants on how their art contributes to craft original movies soundtracks. The event will include a tour to Fono Roma studios, which houses 50 editing rooms, 15 dubbing suites, and 6 mixing theaters.
