Embedded Acoustics provides hardware, software and services for measuring and/or optimising speech intelligibility. We are a spin-out company of TNO in the Netherland, comprising the same team that invented and developed the Speech Transmission Index. At the 130th AES convention, we are launching iSTI Professional: our fully IEC compliant Speech Transmission Index (STIPA) measuring solution, in the form of an app for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. We are also announcing Bedrock Optimizer, our optimisation unit for Public Address and Voice Evacuation systems that is capable of boosting speech intelligibility by as much as 30%, while still reducing the overall cost of the PA system.
Focusrite is pleased to demonstrate RedNet, our new professional networked audio system. RedNet carries up to 128 inputs and 128 outputs of high-resolution digital audio over a standard Ethernet network and supports latency under 3mS. Also on show will be the Control 2802 small-format analogue recording console and DAW control surface in one. It forms both the digital control nerve centre and the analogue heart of the modern professional project studio. Come to our stand for a hands-on demonstration of these exciting new products and see for yourself why a professional studio from Focusrite will revolutionise the way you work.
Fraunhofer IIS has been working in compressed audio technology for more than 20 years. The institute is the main inventor of mp3 and universally credited with the co-development of AAC (Advanced Audio Coding). At AES Europe 2011, Fraunhofer IIS will present the Sonnox Fraunhofer Pro-Codec Plug-in. As an industry first, the Pro-Codec plug-in enables mix and mastering engineers to audition up to five codecs in real-time within a DAW environment. All major codecs – including mp3, mp3 Surround, AAC-LC and HE-AAC – are supported, as are lossless codecs such as mp3 HD and HD-AAC. In addition, Fraunhofer IIS will exhibit a product preview of the new audio codec, Enhanced Low Delay AACv2 (AAC-ELDv2). This codec enables low bit-rate, high quality live remote stereo broadcast contribution over a mobile network and, in comparison to discrete audio delivery, saves valuable bandwidth for stereo transmission. AAC-ELDv2 is an extension of the widely adopted broadcasting codec AAC-ELD.
KLIPPEL presents a novel instrument for a fast testing of suspension parts as spiders, cones, surrounds and passive radiators (drones). Linear mechanical parameters like resonance frequency, effective stiffness, relative mass and stiffness deviation are determined dynamically from the displacement frequency response. The displacement is measured by a triangulation laser while the device under test is stimulated pneumatically. The easy-to-handle fast loading mechanism is designed to change DUTs as fast as possible while ensuring stable and robust measurement conditions. The powerful tool is part of the KLIPPEL QC System and combines easy use with high speed measurements and robustness against ambient noise.
Lambda Photometrics is introducing the PERFECTION-10 RUBIDIUM MASTER CLOCK from Stanford Research Systems Inc. Using their in-house designed and manufactured Rubidium atomic clock “engine”, the PERFECTION-10 offers class leading ultra-low phase noise of <-155dBc/Hz (@10kHz). With eight 75ohm 10MHz clock outputs, +/-0.05ppb accuracy and optional 12VDC redundant power supply, PERFECTION-10 has a highly affordable price compared other Rubidium clocks. We will also be exhibiting the Stanford SR1 AUDIO ANALYSER, a high end dual domain (digital/analogue) audio analyser. SR1 features an internal PC for stand-alone operation, ultra-low noise of -112dB THD+N, +/-0.008dB flatness, -118dBu analyser noise, <600ps jitter etc. Dual channel FFT’s and a full suite of source and analyser functions are provided as standard; including impulse response measurement. Full automation scripting and connectivity via GPIB, RS232 and Ethernet make SR1 a highly valuable production test tool as well as a top-of-the range R&D instrument. Best of all this high-end specification is available at a fraction of the cost of similar instruments. See www.lambdaphoto.co.uk for more.
The MPG represents and promotes the interests of all those involved in the production of recorded music, including producers, engineers, mixers, re-mixers, programmers and mastering engineers The Music Producers Guild (UK) is an independent and democratic organisation that encourages the highest standards of music production, and actively engages with other music industry organisations to campaign and lobby on matters of important mutual interest.
Nagra Audio designs and manufactures extremely reliable high quality portable digital audio recorders. Formed in 1951 the Swiss company celebrates its 60th birthday this year. The all new Nagra SD is a small, lightweight hand-held ultra portable quality recorder. The easy to use recorder stores to a removable SD media card. Plug-on stereo and mono external microphones are available. There is a built-in monitor speaker. Also new at AES is the Nagra EMP stand-alone microphone preamplifier. It provides two additional inputs for the Nagra VI recorder or acts as a quality preamplifier for all recorders. The battery powered unit incorporates a built-in recorder. A new version of Nagra LB with ISDN interface is launched at AES. The LB is a two channel battery operated digital recorder providing linear or MPEG recordings. Media is hot swappable. Download to Bluetooth, Ethernet, USB or CF card is available. On-board editing is provided. Nagra VI now provides eight recordable tracks with recording to both hard disc and CompactFlash. Features include a colour operator display, long battery life and full SMPTE/EBU timecode facilities.

R&D-Team (www.randteam.de) displays its software tools for acoustic and electro-acoustic research and development. ABEC has been extended significantly allowing parallel processing and the full coupling to lumped element analysis. The latter allows the simulation of multiple drivers in complex enclosures and waveguides. ABEC is also useful in predicting the sound-field of small rooms. ABEC stands for Acoustic Boundary Element Calculator. The whole package uses BEM for acoustics and lumped element analysis for the electro-mechanical part. Thanks also to our customers, ABEC has been steadily developed over recent years culminating into the current update. R&D-Team also displays VACS, its graphing and post-processing tool. VACS is very useful for daily engineering where large amount of data from different sources such as measurements and simulations needs to be organized. New features in VACS are the 3D-Balloon viewer and the time-frequency analysis
