When David Letterman switched networks from NBC to CBS in 1993, the 1,200-capacity theater was totally recongfured to a more intimate 400 seat studio with a state of the art sound system. ELECTRIC LADY RECORDING STUDIOS

In 1970 Jimi Hendrix commissioned architect John Storyk to design a recording studio in Greenwich Village. The walls were triple thick to insulate the sound; the ceilings were 20 feet high and adjustable; the control room looked like something out of the 22nd century; and the basement layout allowed for a few discreet sump pumps to compensate for potential flooding by Manhattan’s old Minetta Brook, which runs to this day directly under the building. Hendrix didn’t mind the brook at all. He said the flow of water gave music recorded there a special resonance. For 35 years this landmark facility has been hosting sessions for countless stars including The Rolling Stones, Jay-Z, Sheryl Crow, and U2.

Radio City Music Hall

Radio City Music Hall is the 6,000-seat art deco “Showplace of The Nation” and home to the world famous Rockettes. When the stock market crashed in 1929, John D. Rockefeller, Jr. held a $91 million, 24-year lease on a piece of midtown Manhattan property properly known as “the speakeasy belt.” His plans to gentrify the neighborhood by building a new Metropolitan Opera House on the site were dashed by the failing economy and the business outlook was dim. Teaming up with the talents of impresario S.L. “Roxy” Rothafel and RCA, Rockefeller made a bold decision that would leave a lasting impact on the city’s architectural and cultural landscape and provide a home for the legendary Rockettes for decades to come. After undergoing a renovation in 1979, a state-of-the-art sound control, computerized lighting, and a power room for digital cable wiring brought this landmark music venue into the 21st Century.
