Abstract: In 1988, subjective listening tests of popular multichannel audio codecs in the 5.1-channel format were carried out. The systems under test were real time implementations of Dolby AC-3 and MPEG-2 Layer II. The tests were conducted according to recommendations of ITU-R and EBU. A description of test methodology and test design will be given. The results will be presented and discussed.
