Abstract: The degradation of the stereophonic illusion due to off-center listening is investigated, both for a small and wide loudspeaker basis. The experimental results for video applications are compared with the case of a much wider loudspeaker base, as in audio-only applications. The optimum loudspeaker radiation pattern is discussed, obeying the time/intensity trading concept.
