Abstract: Sound spatialization has interested artists and researchers alike for a number of decades. While the researchers have focused on the ability to effectively spatialize sound in different loudspeaker configurations as well as bring in an immersive environment into headphone listening, artists have been focusing on trying to create various compositions and installations, which utilize these loudspeaker configurations to create interesting effects and pieces. This study aims to understand if there is any preferences or biases for certain spatialization techniques with certain genres of music and what the underlying reason could be for any such preferences. This is done with a user study in a listening room over loudspeakers. Results showed that subjects preferred the Vector Base Amplitude Panning (VBAP) configuration for all genres except Rock music where they preferred Ambisonics method of delivery.
