AES Technical Committee

Advisory Group on Regulations

Chair:    David Josephson    (Send E-mail)

The Technical Council Advisory Group on Regulations hopes to facilitate communication between professional audio and the governmental agencies worldwide that regulate the sale and use of professional audio equipment. The committee is specifically not involved in influencing legislation in any jurisdiction. Once laws have been enacted, however, it is often up to an executive commission or government standards group to develop the technical implementation. A primary goal of this committee is to advise and inform regulatory bodies charged with implementing laws pertaining to audio about the best available solutions and practices, and promote the adoption of well founded technical solutions in order to provide the benefits of good audio to society. There are often many stakeholders and it is important that the interests of the audio industry be heard in this process. Another important function is to keep AES members informed of the state of regulations that might impact them.

When making a report either to government bodies or to members, every effort will be made to reach a consensus of all affected parties who wish to participate in the process, and to document the various positions should a consensus not be reached.
