We look forward to seeing our European AES members at the Paris Palais des Congrès, June 4-7.
The agenda for our next TC meeting will be posted shortly, and will also be emailed to registered participants of the committee.
Standards work to produce a modern, workable, and accurate procedure to test and calibrate a sound system is underway as SC-04-08.
Cinema Loudness: a study group, led by Eelco Grimm, is working on a report dealing with aspects of this issue.
Subbass Loudness/Measurement: We are continuing to have discussions on this issue, raised at the 57th Conference in Hollywood and discussed in New York.
At the recently concluded 57th Conference in Hollywood, several items were identified as action items by the Conference.
One of these is the issue of bass management.
The SMPTE B-Chain Report issued last October identified bass and subbass as a major area of discrepancy between both the dubbing rooms as well as the cinemas. Additionally, this confusion about audio in the bass region has spilled over into home theater and music production. This is what happens when no Standards exist.
I'd like to announce the formation of a task group as part of AC to look at the issue, and provide recommendations that may be the basis of a new AES Standard in this area.
I expect the group to be activated on the website shortly, and a chair to this group will be appointed prior to the Warsaw Convention.
I look forward to the participation of a cross-section of entertainment audio production experts so that we can handle this issue in a comprehensive manner.
