Audio Students! Rub elbows with industry mentors and mucky mucks at the AES Student Party to be held at Coast Recorders/Michael Romanowski Mastering.  This historic recording studio with the largest tracking room in San Francisco was designed and built by the legendary Bill Putnam over 40 years ago. Richard King holds a bachelor of music from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia (1987), and a master of music with a major in sound recording from McGill University (1991). After 15 years with Sony Music Studios in New York and a successful independent recording business started in 2007, Grammy award-winning recording engineer Richard King has a new position as associate professor at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal. He continues his freelance recording work, on a smaller scale, with Sony Classical, Decca, EMI, Nonesuch, and various film companies such as Fox Searchlight and Paramount. He is the audio consultant to the David H. Koch Theatre, which houses the New York City Ballet and City Opera. Richard is a frequent AES panelist, and he workshops with various university level recording programs on a regular basis.

The top three finalists in each category, as identified by our judges, present a short summary of their production intentions and the key recording and mix techniques used to realize their goals. They then play their projects for all who attend. Meritorious awards are determined here and will be presented at the closing Student Delegate Assembly Meeting (SDA-2) on Monday afternoon. The competition is a great chance to hear the work of your fellow students at other educational institutions. Everyone learns from the judges’ comments even if your project isn’t one of the finalists, and it's a great chance to meet other students and faculty.

The first Student Delegate Assembly (SDA) meeting is the official opening of the Convention’s student program and a great opportunity to meet with fellow students from all corners of the world. Candidates for the next SDA Officer will be introduced, and the finalists for the Student Recording Competition and the Student Design Competition will be announced. All student Convention events will be discussed. Come introduce yourself and your AES student section!!

The official closing of the Convention’s student program. At this meeting the students will elect a new SDA Vice Chair. AES 133 Convention San Francisco | Education and Career Fair

 The combined AES133 Education and Career Fair will take place on Saturday, October 27 from 12:30pm to 2:00pm in the Foyer of the Moscone Center, San Francisco.

This joint event will match job seekers with companies and prospective students with numerous schools and education programmes. 

 Companies are invited to participate in our Education and Career Fair, free of charge. This is the perfect chance to identify your ideal new hires! 
All attendees of the convention, students and professionals alike, are welcome to come visit with representatives from participating companies to find out more about job and internship opportunities in the audio industry. Bring your resume! 

 Academic Institutions offering studies in audio (from short courses to graduate degrees) will be represented in a "table top" session. Information on each school's respective programs will be made available through displays and academic guidance. There is no charge for schools/institutions to participate.

JONATHAN WYNER

CAT3 - MODERN STUDIO RECORDING


Chief Mastering Engineer and Company President at M Works Studios, Jonathan has mastered more than 5000 CD's during the last 27 years spanning every musical idiom (and some non-musical idioms as well!).  A Recording Engineer since the late 1970’s, Jonathan began his career as a Mastering Engineer in 1985 as the compact disc was becoming a reality and established M Works Mastering in Cambridge, MA in 1991.  His credits range from the extremely well known (James Taylor, David Bowie, Aerosmith, Kiri Te Kanawa), to the more idiosyncratic and independent artists/labels (Aimee Mann, Tiny Tim, Rahsaan Roland Kirk). Among the seemingly countless student activities at the 133rd Audio Engineering Society Convention, we're particularly pleased to announce the return of the PMC Masters of Audio Demo Room, featuring once again Student Recording Critiques!

Join PMC for demonstrations and in-depth discussion of the latest advancements in analog modeling plug-ins and its sonic performances. Learn how to dig deep into some of the most popular and sonically rich analog modeling plug-ins available today. We invite all students, young and old, to come take part in this wonderful opportunity.

Presentations will include Charles Deenen who will give a demonstration on sound design for trailers & games, Ross Hogarth who will discuss some of his favorite mixing tools, Tony Maserati and his team from Outfit 27 who will hold three different talks on session preparation, premix, additional production and mix-down, Jack Vad who will be sharing some of the latest high resolution recordings, Erik Zobler who will be showcasing some of his latest projects, Maor Appelbaum who will share his thoughts of mastering, Jochen Veith who will share his insights into acoustics through a case study on Wisseloord Studios and SRC Judge Jim Anderson who will be sharing with us the 5.1 remix of Patricia Barbers "Modern Cool".
