Richard King holds a bachelor of music from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia (1987), and a master of music with a major in sound recording from McGill University (1991). After 15 years with Sony Music Studios in New York and a successful independent recording business started in 2007, Grammy award-winning recording engineer Richard King has a new position as associate professor at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal. He continues his freelance recording work, on a smaller scale, with Sony Classical, Decca, EMI, Nonesuch, and various film companies such as Fox Searchlight and Paramount. He is the audio consultant to the David H. Koch Theatre, which houses the New York City Ballet and City Opera. Richard is a frequent AES panelist, and he workshops with various university level recording programs on a regular basis.

They then play their projects for all who attend. Meritorious awards are determined here and will be presented at the closing Student Delegate Assembly Meeting (SDA-2) on Monday afternoon. The competition is a great chance to hear the work of your fellow students at other educational institutions. Everyone learns from the judges’ comments even if your project isn’t one of the finalists, and it's a great chance to meet other students and faculty.

What kinds of studios and facilities are built for education? Five noted educators from diverse programs will share the decision-making process that informs the construction of various college level facilities. How do curriculums and pedagogy prescribe construction and equipment choices? Or does this too-often work in reverse when existing space and budget limitations dictate how and what will be taught? Quick presentations will be followed by a moderated open discussion among educators, manufacturers, students, employers, and anyone with a stake in the next generation of audio professionals.

SPARS Speed Mentoring – Mentoring Answers for your Career
SPARS will once again be hosting speed mentoring sessions at the 133rd AES Convention. The Ask SPARS mentoring sessions will take place on Saturday, October 27th from 3:30pm to 5:30pm in room SC4. These mentoring sessions will feature recognized industry professionals in the fields of Gaming, Live Sound/Live Recording, Manufacturing, Mastering, Sound for Picture and Studio Production. The mentors will meet with participants face to face in small groups to offer advice, share experience and answer questions about the industry and careers.
The Ask SPARS sessions are made possible with the support of AES, the Game Audio Network Guild (GANG), Manhattan Producers Association (Manhat Pro) and the Women’s Audio Mission (WAM), as well as the cooperation of our talented line up of mentors.

The combined AES133 Education and Career Fair will take place on Saturday, October 27 from 12:30pm to 2:00pm in the Foyer of the Moscone Center, San Francisco.
This joint event will match job seekers with companies and prospective students with numerous schools and education programmes.
Companies are invited to participate in our Education and Career Fair, free of charge. This is the perfect chance to identify your ideal new hires!
All attendees of the convention, students and professionals alike, are welcome to come visit with representatives from participating companies to find out more about job and internship opportunities in the audio industry. Bring your resume!
Academic Institutions offering studies in audio (from short courses to graduate degrees) will be represented in a "table top" session. Chief Mastering Engineer and Company President at M Works Studios, Jonathan has mastered more than 5000 CD's during the last 27 years spanning every musical idiom (and some non-musical idioms as well!). A Recording Engineer since the late 1970’s, Jonathan began his career as a Mastering Engineer in 1985 as the compact disc was becoming a reality and established M Works Mastering in Cambridge, MA in 1991. His credits range from the extremely well known (James Taylor, David Bowie, Aerosmith, Kiri Te Kanawa), to the more idiosyncratic and independent artists/labels (Aimee Mann, Tiny Tim, Rahsaan Roland Kirk).
