Report of the meeting of the SC-05-02 Working Group on Audio Connectors of the SC-05 Subcommittee on Interconnections, held in Budapest, Hungary, 2012-04-27

The meeting was convened by vice-chair J. Woodgate.

The agenda and the report of the previous meeting, 2011-10-21, were accepted as written.

AES14-R, Review of AES14-1992 (r2003): AES standard for professional audio equipment - Application of connectors, part 1, XLR-type polarity and gender
The Secretary is requested to proceed to a new printing of this updated document with editorial updates to normative reference numbers.

AES-14id-R Review of AES-14id-2010: AES Information document for interconnections - Universal jack for IEC 60603-11 and B-gauge 6,35 mm plugs
No action requested or required.

Development projects

AES-X011: Fiber-Optic Audio Connections: Connectors and Cables Being Used and Considered for Audio
A secretariat-formatted version of this draft will be prepared ASAP for the working group to consider.

AES-X123: XL Connectors to Improve Electromagnetic Compatibility
New wording from J. Brown for shell connections and filtering (low-inductance capacitor and ferrite bead) is not available. B.C. Olson will contact Brown.

AES-X130: Data Connector in a XL Connector Shell
The PWD, posted to this group on 2011-11-30, has produced no comments, so the document can proceed to PCFC.

New projects

Pluggable terminal strips
A preliminary draft was posted to the SC-05-02 document site as X199-rar-draft-111021. Olson will contact R. Rayburn regarding the future of this project.

Miniature XLR connectors
It was agreed to write a new Standard for balanced (only) interconnections on 3- and 5-pin miniature XLR connectors. During the meeting, a draft was produced, based on AES14, which will be posted to this group as a PWD.

New business

There was no new business.

The next meeting will be scheduled in conjunction with the AES 133rd Convention in San Francisco CA 2012-10.
