SC-02-01 meeting, New York, 2011-10

Report of the meeting of the SC-02-01 Working Group on digital audio measurement techniques of the SC-02 Subcommittee on digital audio, held in in Budapest, Hungary, 2012-04

The meeting was convened by AESSC Chair, B. C. Olson.

The agenda and the report of the previous meeting, held on 2011-10-22 were accepted as written.

Projects assigned to this group but not mentioned here had no action requested or required - see www.aes.org/standards/meetings/project-status.cfm for details.

Open Projects:

AES-X102: Liaison with IEC TC100 PT 61606
Discussion: J. Woodgate reported that at the meeting of MT 60268-3 it was suggested that there should be a revision to some parts of IEC 61606, "Audio and audiovisual equipment - Digital audio parts - Basic measurement methods of audio characteristics ". If that is accepted by the IEC TC100 General Maintenance Team (GMT), then this liaison will be revived.

AES-X118: Liaison with ITU-R study group 6C
Discussion: A. Mason reported on current status: ITU-R BS.1771, "Requirements for loudness and true-peak indicating meters" has been updated, and ITU-R BS.1770, "Algorithms to measure audio programme loudness and true-peak audio level" has had a few minor changes. The ITU-R group has not been able to agree on a tolerance on the over-sampling filter specification for the true-peak meter, and proposals from this group would be welcomed.

AES-X187A: Revision of AES17
Discussion: T. Kite discussed the new substantial changes in the latest draft, intended to revise AES17, "AES standard method for digital audio equipment - Measurement of digital audio equipment". This group is asked to review Annex 7 and 8 and offer comments. A number of areas were discussed and Tom will develop the draft accordingly. The group should also offer comments. Because this draft will cover techniques wider than set out in IEC 61606, it is planned to offer the revised AES17 to the IEC maintenance team (MT) for IEC 61606 when the project has been completed.

AES-X187B: Companion ID to AES17
Discussion: J. Woodgate suggested that a scope should be written to help organize and clarify the document, and suggested that a new title should be simply, "Guide to AES17".

AES-X206: Frequency Response Data file format
Discussion: This working group needs a leader for this project. The available information on the the FRD format needs to be converted into standards language.
