SC-05-02 meeting report, London, 2011-05

Report of the meeting of the SC-05-02 Working Group on Audio Connectors of the SC-05 Subcommittee on Interconnections, held in London, UK., 2011-05-14

The meeting was convened by subcommittee vice-chair J. Woodgate.

The agenda and the report of the previous meeting, in San Francisco 2010-11-05, were accepted as written.

Open projects

AES14-R: Review of AES14-1992 (r2009): AES standard for professional audio equipment - Application of connectors, part 1, XLR-type polarity and gender
Input from M. Natter on usage of 'mini-XLR' connectors for balanced and unbalanced applications awaited and promised. Woodgate proposed that an Annex is inappropriate for the new material; it should be main text.

AES26-R: Review of AES26-2001 (r.2007): AES recommended practice for professional audio - Conservation of the polarity of audio signals
Reaffirmation proposed.

AES45-R: Review of AES45-2001 (r.2006): AES standard for single programme connectors - Connectors for loudspeaker-level patch panels
Reaffirmation proposed.

AES-14id-R: Review of AES-14id-2010: AES Information document for interconnections - Universal jack for IEC 60603-11 and B-gauge 6,35 mm plugs
No action requested or required.

Development projects

AES-X011: (D011) Fiber-Optic Audio Connections: Connectors and Cables Being Used and Considered for Audio
Awaiting Secretariat action. Secretariat will review IEC standards prepared by SC86B.

AES-X105: (D105) Modified XLR-3 Connector for Digital Audio
To move to PCFC.

AES-X123: (D123) XL Connectors to Improve Electromagnetic Compatibility
J. Brown to propose wording for shell connections.

AES-X130: (D130) AES standard for interconnections - Data connector in an XLR connector shell
An updated PWD is required, so as to move to PCFC if possible.

AES-X183: (D183) Audio application of 25-way D-type connectors in balanced circuits
SC-05-02 Chair to consider simplification of constraints on application.

AES-X189: (D189) Connector for surround microphones
The AES-X189 project passed from SC-04-04 to SC-05-02.

Liaisons

The AES-X189 project further strengthens the desirability of a D-liaison with IEC SC48B, already indicated by several other SC-05-02 projects. Secretariat to pursue.

New Projects

Woodgate proposed a questionnaire on sealed connectors for outdoor loudspeakers, and passed details of an Amphenol connector used by one international manufacturer to the Secretariat.

New business

There was no new business.

The next meeting will be scheduled in conjunction with the AES 131st Convention in New York, NY., US., 20 to 23 October 2011.
